Direct relief for families impacted by Spokane Complex Fires
Standing With Our Neighbors
In the wake of the devastating Spokane Complex Fires, many of our neighbors are facing the difficult task of rebuilding their lives after losing the place they called home. Spokane developer and longtime community supporter Walt Worthy, in honor of his late wife, Karen, has stepped forward with a generous commitment to provide $10,000 in direct financial assistance to eligible households whose primary residence was destroyed by the August 2026 Spokane Complex Fires (Old Trails, Autumn Lane, and Fairview Fires).
Grant distributions will be managed and verified by the Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group, a Spokane-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. This page provides information about the grant program, eligibility requirements, and the application process for residents whose primary residence—whether owned or rented—was destroyed. Our goal is to make the process clear, secure, and timely so this support can reach our neighbors when they need it most. Applications close October 18, 2026.
About Karen Worthy
Walt and Karen Worthy have been prominent business and community leaders in the Spokane region for decades. Through their investments in hospitality and development, including the restoration of the historic Davenport Hotel, Walt and Karen have helped preserve important pieces of Spokane’s history while contributing to the continued growth and revitalization of downtown.
Their impact extends beyond development. Karen was actively involved in civic and community efforts throughout the region, lending her leadership and experience to organizations and initiatives focused on making Spokane a stronger place to live, work, and visit. In addition, Karen taught first grade at Balboa Elementary School for 20 years, and before Indian Trail Elementary School was built, many of her students lived in the Indian Trail area. Walt and Karen’s longstanding commitment to the Inland Northwest reflects a shared belief in investing in the places we call home.
